Sarah, Parentand Matrescence coach
'Guiding mothers on a journey of growth & authentic connection to thrive in motherhood & beyond.'
My journey to becoming a Parent and Matrescence Coach is deeply personal. I’ve always been drawn to education, child development, and understanding how we grow as humans. After teaching and learning for 15 years in top international schools and earning degrees in Early Childhood and Primary Education, I felt confident about transitioning into motherhood. When my first son arrived I struggled with my identity, with who I was if I wasn’t a teacher. I didn’t know it at the time but that was’ matrescence’. When my second son arrived I had a plan to stave off the feelings of bordem during maternity leave and completed a master's degree. I then had a toddler and a baby amidst COVID, back to working a full time job, and life abroad. The reality was humbling. With the arrival of parenthood my partner and I reflected on our values and decided we wanted to live in Ireland to be around family and nature. This move was intended to soothe us after COVID and the early years of parenting and instead I was overwhelmed, isolated, and questioning everything I thought I knew as a parent.
Gentle parenting felt unattainable, and I wasn’t the mother I wanted to be. I parroted the scripts and felt fraudulent. It wasn’t working and I couldn’t just be calm. Learning, research, and turning to the experts has always comforted and guided met, where my perfectionism drives me. Seeking solutions, I took a conscious parenting course—but it wasn’t what I expected. Instead of quick strategies, it pushed me to reflect inward: on my values, emotional intelligence, communication skills, and to learn about neuroscience and the nervous system. It was transformative.
But something was missing—societal context. Where were the conversations about the impossible expectations placed on mothers, why the hyper focus on individual mothers and their mothering? Surely there was a Matricentric version of conscious parenting? Determined to support parents holistically, I enrolled in and completed the only ICF (International Coaching Federation) accredited matrescnce coaching course, Mama Rising. This felt like the final piece of the puzzle.
Supporting women isn’t just about parenting—it’s about creating thriving communities. It’s about equipping mothers with the knowledge, skills, and understanding they need to feel empowered, not only as parents but as individuals shaping the world around them. This is my deepest passion.
